I’d definitely pay the money to have someone do a very thorough inspection though. I’m not sure how much that would help, since you can’t prove any problems found weren’t there before it was stolen, but it must be better nothing.

A decade ago, my girlfriend had her Saturn stolen in Chicago. Files a police report. It was gone for a couple weeks, then on the very day she was supposed to get the generous reimbursement check, the police found it double-parked 3 blocks away with a dozen parking tickets on it. :/

I really don’t want it back. There is no way it is coming back as pristine as it was stolen. As you say, there is no way to show any mechanical wear/damage as a result of it’s theft.

I would say if it does come back, I’ll unload it anyway.

As I mentioned, a theft on the record of the CX-3 would impact it’s value.  This wasn’t a car we were keeping long term.

Hopefully we can sign over ownership of the CX-3 quickly.  That way, if it is recovered before I receive payment, it is too late.

Do you have any plans for combating the keyless entry scanners?

I thought it was interesting Jalop had a story about keyless entry thieves a few days after your original post, but was disappointed to see they provided no suggestions on how to prevent it. Aluminium  foil lined hardwood box?

We have not locked down a specific car, but it will be a Sportwagen 4motion.  We’re looking at lightly used, hoping that some money is left over...

Yep, I’d rather not get a stolen car back either. And if one of my cars gets into a bad accident, I’d rather it just gets totaled.  Even the 997...well, especially the 997.

My first “adult car” a ‘06 Mazda 6 GT got smoked once and not totalled. Never the same. We eventually found water was getting in the trunk from a hole that was never repaired.

I miss that car sometimes.

I’m starting to wonder if I wouldn’t have been better off in a GSW with the path I am considering for the car (lower, quicker, and stiffer) . However, I wanted the 1.8T, AWD, nice interior, and the safety/lighting features . Which as you may know, you can have none of if your GSW has 3 pedals at least in the USA .

Yep, and honestly that is perfect driver spec. Knowing now how much I like working on/modding this car I could have saved enough $$ with a GSW to go nuts with mods right off the lot. I thought this was the car I wasn’t going to touch, haha. So I got everything I wanted.
